Mechanical Engineer
General Purpose of this Position:
Develop various component and system designs and methodologies for implementation of HEV battery systems in transportation applications including development of mechanical, thermal and electrical components.
Key Job Elements and
Responsibilities:
Design and develop battery system components for use in transportation applications
Utilize CAD (UG/ NX) as a tool to design new products, components and systems through interaction with other engineers.
Initiate designs from sketches, specifications, customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities or other input from product engineering.
Update designs in CAD per engineering change orders as needed.
Create BOM's and top level prints, component prints, sub-assembly and assembly prints, select materials, process methods and assist in supplier selection.
Responsible for selection of initial tolerances including GD&T.
Use engineering and prototype experience in selecting off-the-shelf components to
create new products.
Perform various engineering analysis including strength of materials, heat transfer
analysis, cost reduction and other operational analysis.
Develop and maintain the proper methods for transfer of math data t customers and
suppliers.
Interact with the supply base for DFM/DFA and product realization activities.
Participate in design reviews, meetings, build support.
Ensure that engineering documentation is maintained in accordance with company
and customer standards and sound engineering practice.
Ensure that design methodologies and product design comply with sound engineering
practices, company standards and customer requirements.
Participate in DFMEA teams and support APQP activities.
Release product design for manufacture and assembly, material selection, design
reviews and component validation. Also develop technical requirements for various
products.
Ad hoc projects as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
Proficient with Unigraphics / NX CAD package including solid models and 2-D prints
Prefer experience with various manufacturing processes such as injection
molding, metal stamping and similar prototype fabrication and tooling.
Prefer experience in component design, product development, APQP, DF
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
